Eight artists, no students

Eight artists, no students...  what gives?  I hope there were papers to write or projects due.  Actually, we've been quite happy with the student turnout so far.  I hope this bodes well for the coming years with the art program.  An interest in the fundamentals of realism, specifically understanding the forms and spatial relations of the human form only further cements the foundation of a great art education.  Look no further than Gustav Klimt.  Before he abstracted the human form into those wonderous images he was an absolute rock solid figure drawer.  Sheesh, look at me go on.  Hope to see everyone Sunday for the portrait session with Miss P.

Join us this Sunday for a portrait session

We will have a three hour, single pose portrait session from 1 until 4 this Sunday, October 30 in Rm 116 of the Liberal Arts Bldg on the campus of MSU-B.  If you choose to use a medium such as oils, acrylics or watercolours, then please bring a drop cloth to minimize clean up afterward.  Hope to see some of y'all there.

A request has been made for a Sunday portrait session

I've cleared it with the school and we can have a long, single pose session on a Sunday of our choosing.  If anyone is interested let's talk about it this Thursday and then work on finding a model willing to sit for about 3 hours.

Another good group

It's pretty great to see the art students from Jodi Lightner's figure class showing up and putting in some time with us.  We hope to see the entire group make it through this year.

Lady S returns

Another good group.  10 regulars and two students.  Lady S is such fun to draw.  We hope the students are realizing how lucky they are to have access to extra time with a live model.  I know I still count myself fortunate to he able to practice my favorite kind of art.

Miss P makes it three

One minute gestures

Five minute sketches

Ten(ish) minute sketches that take us to break.

We finish with a 40 - 45 minute long pose for the artists to get into.

This is the type of evening that makes for a typical session with The Black Hand Group. We often encourage the artists to make suggestions and then let majority rule take over.  Not everyone is thrilled with every pose but that only makes the individual have to find something of interest to get into.
What is not so typical is the 17 artists and 1 model we crammed into our room last Thursday.  This made for a slightly crowded evening and also threw our normal lighting situation into a bit of limbo.  However, we hope everyone had a great night and we really appreciate the three week run Miss P has given us.
